00:00:00 - 01:00:00

provides an overview of the different types of doubts that people can experience, and offers strategies for how to deal with them. It emphasizes the importance of distinguishing between questions and doubts, and of not allowing doubts to become destructive.

*00:00:00 Discusses the concept of doubt, and how it can be destructive. It then goes on to discuss the different types of doubt and how to deal with them. The final topic discussed is the desired state of the heart, and how it must be sound in order to be beneficial.

  • 00:05:00 the speaker discusses the different types of doubts that people can experience, and provides guidance on how to deal with them. She also provides an analysis of the current state of isms and schisms in the Muslim community, and recommends that Muslims be humble and teach people with compassion and wisdom.
  • 00:10:00 The first three strategies for dealing with doubts are being aware, not giving attention to doubts, and making a distinction between personal and external doubts. The final strategy is to focus on one's heart and make supplications to Allāh. Dr. Uthman Latif will present a webinar on how understanding Islamic knowledge can dispel doubts.
  • *00:15:00 Discusses how spiritual practice affects certainty, and how even the best people can suffer from destructive doubts. He gives an example of a companion of the Prophet who was worried about his nifak (self-doubt). He advises that everyone is susceptible to doubt, and that spiritual practice is important in order to maintain certainty.
  • *00:20:00 Discusses how to deal with doubts and how to not take them lightly. It discusses an analogy of a boxer sparring, and how the boxer must keep their hands up to avoid being punched. It encourages Muslims to be aware of doubts and not to let them consume them.
  • *00:25:00 Discusses strategies for dealing with doubts, which can come in the form of destructive thoughts or doubts about Islam. The first strategy is to be aware of the presence of sharks in shark-infested waters, and the second strategy is to stop paying attention to the doubts and to ignore them. The primary strategy for dealing with doubts is to stop avoiding and ignoring them.
  • *00:30:00 Discusses various strategies for dealing with doubts, including avoiding them, fleeing from them, and seeking refuge in God. It points out that, although we may be able to deal with certain intellectual or spiritual challenges, we should default to seeking refuge in God before they become too deep-rooted.
  • *00:35:00 Discusses strategies for dealing with doubts, including making the distinction between intellectual and spiritual doubt, avoiding cliffs and crowds, and using appropriate equipment. It also points out that if someone is not Muslim and does not have proper spiritual tools, they will still be subject to doubt.
  • *00:40:00 Discusses the importance of distinguishing between "heart doubts" (destructive doubts), "valid questions" (questions that are worth investigating), and "wishful thoughts" (shaytanic whispersings). It goes on to say that making distinctions is important for those who want to have a meaningful and empowering relationship with Allah.
  • *00:45:00 Discusses how distinctions can give someone power when it comes to their faith. The first distinction is between waswasa (shaytanic whisperings), negative whisperings, and thoughts that someone does not agree with. The sahaba (companions of the Prophet Muhammad) had a psychological aversion to these thoughts, and according to the Prophet, this was a sign of faith. also discusses how doubts can become destructive if taken seriously. recommends ignoring the thoughts and not acting or talking about them.
  • 00:50:00 explains that there is a difference between questions and shaytanic whisperings, and that questions do not undermine or distort one's belief in Islam, while shaytanic whisperings do. recommends that, if one follows this strategy, shaytanic whispers will eventually disappear.
  • 00:55:00 explains ten strategies for dealing with doubts about Islam. The first strategy is to understand that questions about Islam are valid, and not to allow doubts to turn into destructive heart-wrenching doubt. Next, classical scholars can provide explanations of Islamic teachings that are beyond the understanding of the average person. Finally, it is important to remember that questions about Islam should not be confused with doubts about the validity of the Islamic faith itself.

01:00:00 - 01:05:00

discusses how to deal with doubts in a person's faith, how to ask specialists for advice, and how to learn Islamic knowledge holistically. It offers advice on how to identify and eliminate destructive doubts and suspicions that may be affecting a person's heart.

*01:00:00 Discusses the different ways in which doubts can affect a person's faith and how to deal with them. It points out that doubts are a falsehood that undermine the fundamentals of Islam, and that if they have already entered a person's heart, then more serious strategies are needed. Finally, it offers advice on how to ask specialists and learn Islamic knowledge holistically.

  • 01:05:00 teaches how to distinguish between different types of medical symptoms, and how to deal with them using different strategies. The first three weeks of the course focus on the individual's heart, and how to identify and eliminate any shubaha or shuba (destructive doubts and suspicions) that may be affecting it.

0:00:28 and sisters and friends and welcome to
0:00:30 no doubt
0:00:31 10 strategies on how to do with your and
0:00:34 other people's doubts and this is week
0:00:37 number two week number two brothers
0:00:40 and sisters and friends so what i'm
0:00:43 going to do now
0:00:44 is i'm going to summarize what we did
0:00:46 last week it's always very important to
0:00:48 summarize
0:00:49 it helps the internalization process it
0:00:51 helps the learning process
0:00:53 and it helps the ideas to be
0:00:58 placed into the mind so we could recall
0:01:00 them effectively
0:01:02 if and when required so
0:01:07 my dear brothers sisters and friends
0:01:09 last week we
0:01:11 spoke about
0:01:14 and shahawat now if you remember
0:01:18 there was a difference between
0:01:22 shahawat and shahawat
0:01:25 means your blameworthy desires
0:01:29 okay your blame were the desires
0:01:32 and which is the plural
0:01:36 for is
0:01:39 something that is a doubt
0:01:42 that's a destructive doubt and it
0:01:45 basically
0:01:45 tries to distort the deen of allah
0:01:48 subhana wa ta'ala
0:01:50 or to make you uncertain
0:01:54 about the foundations and the
0:01:56 fundamentals of
0:01:58 islam now
0:02:03 we also said that the
0:02:06 shubha the destructive dao
0:02:10 really comes from the word
0:02:14 to resemble something else tush bihu
0:02:17 so if you remember as faiyumi said
0:02:21 is so called because it resembles the
0:02:24 truth
0:02:25 and ibn tamiya says something very
0:02:27 similar that
0:02:28 you know the from that perspective
0:02:31 is like something that has a tinge of
0:02:36 truth
0:02:37 but it's not really true and he uses the
0:02:40 words
0:02:43 which is a of truth in a way
0:02:46 now what he meant by this is that well
0:02:49 since that people
0:02:50 take shubuhat seriously
0:02:54 it's because they seem to have some
0:02:57 truth there is a tinge of truth but in
0:02:59 reality
0:03:00 they're based on a falsehood so if you
0:03:02 remember very clearly clearly
0:03:06 they are like a wolf in sheep's clothing
0:03:10 it's a wolf in sheep's clothing
0:03:13 it's falsehood dressed up as
0:03:16 truth okay and
0:03:21 obviously before we talked about the
0:03:22 definitions we spoke about you know
0:03:24 what is the desired state of the heart
0:03:26 in fact what is the heart
0:03:28 in the arabic tradition it's comes from
0:03:31 the root which means something that
0:03:33 turns around and upside down
0:03:35 it does it does it changes in it
0:03:39 and it wavers that's the nature of the
0:03:41 heart
0:03:42 and the desired state of the heart is
0:03:44 that it must be sound okay
0:03:46 it must be sound we know this in the
0:03:48 quran in chapter 26 verses 88 to 89
0:03:51 and obviously the hadith in bukhari a
0:03:53 muslim very famous hadith as you know
0:03:56 there is truly there is a there is in
0:03:59 the body and most of flesh
0:04:00 which if it is sound the whole body is
0:04:02 sound and when it is corrupted the whole
0:04:05 body is corrupted truly it is the heart
0:04:07 similarly the quran says in chapter 26
0:04:09 verses 88 to 89
0:04:11 and he talks about the day that nothing
0:04:14 will be of benefit except the one who
0:04:16 comes to allah with a sound heart
0:04:19 so we said the challenge here is well
0:04:21 how do we ensure
0:04:23 that the thing that does the thing that
0:04:25 wavers all the time and changes and goes
0:04:27 upside down
0:04:28 and turns around that we keep it fixated
0:04:31 onto the hak
0:04:32 fixated on the belief of islam
0:04:35 and firm on the belief of islam
0:04:39 well that's what this whole course is
0:04:40 about and we spoke about the concept of
0:04:43 japan in islam that it has
0:04:45 it's like it's not a button that you
0:04:48 press or a lever that you pull
0:04:49 but rather your pain is this kind of
0:04:52 gradation
0:04:53 of certainty there are levels of
0:04:55 certainty and we spoke about
0:04:57 hakalia we spoke about and ain't
0:05:00 and we gave examples of the difference
0:05:02 but it's all still within the realm of
0:05:07 now obviously in the beginning we spoke
0:05:08 about the essential metaphysical
0:05:10 backdrop which we spoke about the fitra
0:05:12 the innate disposition
0:05:14 as you know the word fitrah comes from
0:05:15 the triliteral stem
0:05:18 and you have words like fatron and
0:05:19 fatarahu which
0:05:21 basically lexically is implying that
0:05:23 something has been created within us
0:05:25 uh to acknowledge allah subhanahu wa
0:05:27 ta'ala and to worship him
0:05:29 and this is based on the hadith sahih
0:05:30 muslim as you know and
0:05:32 that hadith in particular tells us
0:05:35 that you know the fitra can be clouded
0:05:38 it doesn't use the words clouded
0:05:40 but basically it talks about the parents
0:05:41 and the parents make him into another
0:05:43 religion a jew a christian or megan
0:05:45 so we like to use the kind of analogy of
0:05:48 the fitra being clouded
0:05:50 and this whole understanding of the
0:05:52 innate disposition the natural state
0:05:55 of the human being is also echoed in the
0:05:58 quran in chapter 30 verse 30
0:06:00 and we spoke about the two main views
0:06:02 okay the two main views of the fitra
0:06:04 because we want this to be in line with
0:06:06 kind of the general understanding of
0:06:08 islamic orthodoxy we don't want to just
0:06:10 pick a particular view
0:06:11 so the two main views of the fitra
0:06:13 namely one view from evin tamiya the
0:06:15 other one from ali ghazali
0:06:17 one view of the fitra is that it has a
0:06:20 form of proton knowledge primary
0:06:21 knowledge
0:06:22 that in the fitrah is knowledge that
0:06:25 god exists and he deserves to be praised
0:06:28 and worshipped
0:06:29 and that there are some basic
0:06:30 understanding of objective moral truths
0:06:32 and values the other understanding of
0:06:34 the fifth is it doesn't contain
0:06:35 knowledge but it directs one towards the
0:06:37 truth
0:06:38 nevertheless if your fitra is clouded it
0:06:40 won't be able to direct you towards the
0:06:42 truth because
0:06:43 it's like driving a vehicle and not
0:06:46 being able to see
0:06:47 uh the through the windscreen and also
0:06:50 if it's
0:06:50 if it's fitrah if the fit right is
0:06:52 clouded rather
0:06:54 and it has truth within it some pro
0:06:57 proton knowledge or primary knowledge if
0:06:59 it's clouded
0:07:00 the truth within won't be awakened so
0:07:03 we said that
0:07:06 they can act like clouds that prevent
0:07:08 the fitter from directing itself to the
0:07:10 truth
0:07:10 or they could act like clouds that
0:07:13 basically prevent us from
0:07:14 awakening the truth within and
0:07:18 this is a very important point i said to
0:07:19 people who are skeptics or not muslim
0:07:21 listening to this that you should stand
0:07:23 in the possibility that this
0:07:24 metaphysical
0:07:25 understanding or this metaphysic or this
0:07:28 first principle make
0:07:29 sense of the idea of doubts and faith
0:07:31 and belief and so on and so forth
0:07:34 then after that what we spoke about we
0:07:37 spoke about
0:07:38 the isms there's currently you know
0:07:42 a tsunami of different isms and schisms
0:07:44 that are trying to take over the hearts
0:07:45 and minds of muslims and non-muslims
0:07:47 atheism skepticism liberalism extremism
0:07:50 post-modernism nihilism
0:07:52 and now i have i have i have coined
0:07:56 a new thing now as a result of the
0:07:59 defamatory cartoons of the prophet
0:08:00 sallallahu alaihi wasallam
0:08:02 there's also i call them what do i call
0:08:05 them again
0:08:06 i call them extremist
0:08:10 secular ideologues
0:08:14 honestly brothers and sisters and
0:08:15 friends if you understand what's going
0:08:16 on in france at the moment it's an utter
0:08:18 joke the arrogance
0:08:20 the arrogance they don't even see it
0:08:21 that's how that's how bad it is they're
0:08:23 so arrogant
0:08:24 they can't see their arrogant and the
0:08:26 hypocrisy of this so-called freedom of
0:08:28 speech stuff is this
0:08:30 utter nonsense utter nonsense um i
0:08:32 actually suggest every single one of you
0:08:34 go to go to the
0:08:35 sapience institute youtube channel
0:08:38 youtube.com slash
0:08:39 sapience institute there's a video that
0:08:41 is going relatively viral
0:08:43 and it's an analysis and a breakdown of
0:08:45 these secular extremist
0:08:47 ideologues that they don't have a
0:08:49 philosophical foundation they're
0:08:51 incoherent
0:08:51 baseless they're uncivilized they're an
0:08:54 uncivilized
0:08:55 bunch yeah and
0:08:58 [Music]
0:08:59 i look forward to engaging with such
0:09:01 people because they need to be civilized
0:09:03 they need to be educated and that's
0:09:05 the the role of the muslim the role of
0:09:08 the muslim
0:09:09 is not to be arrogant but to be humble
0:09:12 and to basically
0:09:13 teach people with compassion and wisdom
0:09:15 and tell them what the truth is and to
0:09:17 help civilize people from an ethical
0:09:19 point of view because the
0:09:20 clear and apparent contradictions and
0:09:23 hypocrisy coming from these secular
0:09:24 ideologues
0:09:25 is frankly shocking shocking
0:09:29 so you may not know why i'm having this
0:09:32 small little rant
0:09:33 but if you go and watch the video i
0:09:35 think um i think you
0:09:36 definitely appreciate what i'm saying
0:09:38 and you know it was actually uh
0:09:41 a kind of quasi-academic critique of
0:09:44 uh what's been going on as well so
0:09:46 anyway point here is
0:09:48 that all these isms and schisms are
0:09:49 trying to engulf the hearts and
0:09:51 and minds of muslims and non-muslims
0:09:53 right
0:09:54 and then we spoke about last week we
0:09:56 spoke about the three main areas and
0:09:58 sources of doubts which was uh
0:09:59 taken from a research paper by japan
0:10:01 institute which is called what causes
0:10:03 muslims to doubt a quantitative
0:10:05 analysis and this was really good
0:10:08 because
0:10:09 you know it reinforced my own personal
0:10:11 experiences and i think that's personal
0:10:12 experiences of other people have been
0:10:14 engaging in this type of work
0:10:15 and the three main areas are more on
0:10:17 social concerns philosophical scientific
0:10:19 concerns and personal trauma and
0:10:21 we unpacked what personal trauma meant
0:10:24 but obviously that's going to be
0:10:25 unpacked further by dr uthman latif i
0:10:28 believe
0:10:30 and then we spoke about the 10
0:10:33 strategies
0:10:34 now most of these strategies are for
0:10:37 before and after
0:10:38 the so when the destructive doubt
0:10:42 starts to enter and when it actually
0:10:46 enters the heart
0:10:47 so these strategies most of them are for
0:10:50 before and after but some of them are
0:10:52 only for before and and one of them
0:10:53 are for after as well and
0:10:57 this leads us very nicely to just
0:10:58 quickly go through and
0:11:00 see them again the first strategy is
0:11:03 first strategies to be aware
0:11:04 the other one is to not give it any
0:11:06 attention the other strategy is to make
0:11:08 a distinction which we're going to
0:11:09 unpack today as well
0:11:11 the other strategy is a very important
0:11:12 one is about your environment
0:11:14 your friends your social environment
0:11:15 understanding of social norms and social
0:11:17 psychology
0:11:18 and how you can affect our cognitive
0:11:20 apparatus
0:11:21 and how we conclude and the conclusions
0:11:25 that we come to you
0:11:26 we're going to speak about study islam
0:11:29 is going to
0:11:30 provide a brilliant webinar on showing
0:11:32 that if you have
0:11:33 an understanding of of islamic knowledge
0:11:36 you traverse the path of islamic
0:11:37 knowledge
0:11:39 these shubu hat they get dismantled and
0:11:41 annihilated
0:11:42 honestly even when it's like contentious
0:11:44 issues
0:11:45 in in in the islamic tradition and you
0:11:48 will see that when you traverse the path
0:11:50 of realm
0:11:50 of knowledge then the the the doubts
0:11:54 become
0:11:54 annihilated then i'm going to come back
0:11:57 and
0:11:58 we're going to explore the idea of
0:11:59 critical thinking which will expand upon
0:12:01 some of the key areas of doubt such as
0:12:03 philosophical scientific and ethical
0:12:05 areas
0:12:05 teach you some islamic thought islamic
0:12:07 theo philosophy
0:12:09 and how to apply critical thinking and
0:12:11 feel philosophical thinking
0:12:13 on these matters so you become empowered
0:12:16 then we're going to be talking about
0:12:18 find specialists deal with your trauma
0:12:20 which is
0:12:21 a big session because there's different
0:12:23 types of trauma of course
0:12:24 personal external internal etc focus on
0:12:28 your heart which is the number one
0:12:30 and make dua supplications the reason
0:12:33 focus on your heart is number one
0:12:34 because this is an area of the heart
0:12:36 and the heart is weak it does it changes
0:12:38 and wavers
0:12:39 and we must spiritually strengthen the
0:12:41 heart and i believe it's going to be
0:12:43 doctors my teeth he's going to show you
0:12:44 how to do that how to engage in
0:12:46 spiritual practice and by the way
0:12:48 i need this more than anyone here so
0:12:50 don't think because i'm delivering this
0:12:52 that i'm sorted
0:12:53 no not at all delivering these webinars
0:12:55 are part of my own therapy
0:12:58 so make dua for me and i'll make da for
0:13:00 you may allah bless every single one of
0:13:03 you
0:13:03 and grant you all with sekina with
0:13:05 spiritual tranquility and with
0:13:07 yakkin and with conviction and forgive
0:13:09 your sins and my sins and grant you the
0:13:11 best in this life and
0:13:13 mean so
0:13:16 today we're going to be talking about
0:13:17 the first three strategies
0:13:20 be aware don't give attention and make
0:13:22 the distinction
0:13:24 okay so that was a good summary
0:13:26 alhamdulillah we did that in about 10
0:13:28 minutes that's not too bad
0:13:30 so be aware brothers and sisters
0:13:34 be aware be on guard okay
0:13:37 you know i always like using martial art
0:13:39 and boxing analogy to apologize i'm not
0:13:40 a violent person per se
0:13:42 but i don't mind a little bit of a scrap
0:13:43 in a ring now and then
0:13:45 just to you know exercise the good old
0:13:48 they could have boxing and wing chun
0:13:50 skills maybe but
0:13:51 obviously we do within an islamic
0:13:52 ethical environment
0:13:54 but the point here is you know i'm using
0:13:57 these examples so just to
0:13:58 awaken something within you because when
0:13:59 you're about to have a fight right
0:14:01 saying a boxing ring
0:14:03 you know you can't go blindfolded right
0:14:05 you know unless your name is bruce lee
0:14:07 and jackie chan all mixed together then
0:14:09 you know you need to start
0:14:10 you know peeling your eyes as they say
0:14:12 and just be aware and just
0:14:14 any little twitch and movement if you
0:14:16 don't have that sense of awareness that
0:14:17 physical and mental awareness you will
0:14:20 get smashed
0:14:21 in the words of our beloved khabib right
0:14:24 so you need to be aware and this is
0:14:28 something that you might think well
0:14:30 this is common sense well absolutely but
0:14:32 usually the thing with common sense is
0:14:33 not very common
0:14:34 unfortunately and and when we talk about
0:14:37 be aware this is
0:14:38 one of the strategies that you need to
0:14:42 implement before the before the
0:14:45 destructive doubt
0:14:46 uh comes to your attention
0:14:49 because if you know that something
0:14:51 presents a danger
0:14:53 and that it exists it allows you not to
0:14:56 be a victim to his evil it's
0:14:58 evil rather so you have to understand
0:15:00 that shubu hat
0:15:01 exists i am telling you the greatest
0:15:04 minds in this world have had shubuhat
0:15:08 the greatest minds i believe there was a
0:15:09 dialogue even with the famous student of
0:15:12 ibn tamiya the 14th century theologian
0:15:13 ibrahim
0:15:14 and he was asking his teacher about how
0:15:16 to deal with shubuhat
0:15:19 so even those with him and those with
0:15:21 knowledge and those
0:15:22 who are you know the greats and the
0:15:24 giants amongst us
0:15:25 they suffer with shubu
0:15:29 they have some type of engagement with
0:15:32 these
0:15:32 destructive doubts and that's why the
0:15:34 tradition is here
0:15:35 the islamic intellectual spiritual
0:15:37 tradition is here to help us navigate
0:15:39 that space
0:15:41 so even with contemporary people
0:15:45 contemporary thinkers and contemporary
0:15:47 dua to those people who
0:15:48 share islam and convey islam on a basic
0:15:51 and even academic level
0:15:53 you know i engage with these people i've
0:15:54 known them for years i know myself
0:15:57 well not in a kind of arrogant way you
0:15:59 know i know myself i don't but you know
0:16:01 you get the point
0:16:01 like i i know what i've experienced even
0:16:04 with me
0:16:05 i give an example i had someone i
0:16:07 believe who and
0:16:08 forgive me if it's inaccurate picture of
0:16:10 what happened because my memory is not
0:16:11 great
0:16:12 but i sat with someone who left islam
0:16:16 who left islam i gave them an answer
0:16:19 that convinced them to the degree they
0:16:21 came back
0:16:22 but my but when i gave the answer to
0:16:24 myself i wasn't really convinced with it
0:16:27 but what i mean by convinced it was an
0:16:29 intellectual matter for me was a
0:16:30 spiritual matter like my mind
0:16:32 knew that my answer was great but my
0:16:34 state of being how i related to myself
0:16:37 how i related to others
0:16:38 specifically how i related to myself and
0:16:40 how i relate to allah subhanahu wa
0:16:42 ta'ala my state of being
0:16:44 was dislocated from from its ideal state
0:16:48 it was dislodged right
0:16:50 and that was because of my spiritual
0:16:52 practice i there was a correlation
0:16:53 between
0:16:54 a kind of very basic you know hanging on
0:16:58 the thread spiritual practice
0:17:00 and my level of certainty
0:17:04 there was definitely a correlation and i
0:17:07 even see this in my own life
0:17:09 you know sometimes when arrogance seeps
0:17:11 in and what i mean by arrogance is a
0:17:13 sense of urge
0:17:14 because sometimes when you know the
0:17:15 islamic spiritual tradition you know you
0:17:17 try and prevent yourself from being
0:17:18 arrogant because you might know the
0:17:19 blatant signs but there's a greater
0:17:21 spiritual disease which is urgent is
0:17:24 self-amazement
0:17:25 this is like self-arrogance when no one
0:17:27 is around you could have self-amazed
0:17:28 women in a room in a dark room and no
0:17:30 one's watching you you could be like
0:17:31 wow i've developed such a great course
0:17:34 called no doubt look i'm amazing right
0:17:38 i haven't said that to anyone for
0:17:39 example i said it to myself
0:17:41 but that is a spiritual disease why
0:17:42 because i'm saying i am the intrinsic
0:17:44 source of this
0:17:46 of this great act or this great work but
0:17:48 in actual fact in the islamic spiritual
0:17:49 tradition what does allah say in the
0:17:50 quran
0:17:51 it wasn't that you that threw allah
0:17:54 through
0:17:55 so we're just basically a manifestation
0:17:57 of allah's
0:17:58 names and attributes we are an empty
0:18:00 tool that allah uses to manifest his
0:18:01 mercy and his guidance and his
0:18:04 and his and his power and his glory and
0:18:07 all of these things
0:18:08 if you think that you are the intrinsic
0:18:10 soul cause
0:18:11 there's a massive problem about
0:18:13 understanding yourself
0:18:14 and understanding allah subhanahu wa
0:18:16 ta'ala because it's as if you make you
0:18:19 yourself and allah almost equal partners
0:18:21 like you know you have a say in this
0:18:24 right you have no
0:18:25 say hamza has no say what does hamza
0:18:27 know
0:18:28 right it's only because of the blessings
0:18:30 of allah subhanahu wa
0:18:31 ta'ala it's only because allah has given
0:18:34 hamza the ability
0:18:35 and it's because allah is the power
0:18:38 behind all of this
0:18:39 hamza had no say in this if he wants
0:18:41 allah tomorrow he could make me
0:18:43 crippled disabled and not be able to
0:18:45 speak or anything
0:18:46 within an instant right and i could do
0:18:49 nothing about it i am utterly dependent
0:18:51 on allah
0:18:52 subhanahu wa ta'ala and this is why when
0:18:54 you have our job when i notice urju in
0:18:56 my own heart
0:18:57 that i see that my spiritual practice is
0:19:00 affected all
0:19:01 my spiritual practice not being great
0:19:03 affects my heart at the same time
0:19:06 so yeah basically i've gone through
0:19:10 these things too
0:19:11 you know and this you know everyone
0:19:14 everyone is susceptible
0:19:16 everyone even the
0:19:19 sahaba the best companions the best
0:19:22 people after the prophets have worked
0:19:23 this planet are the companions of the
0:19:25 prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
0:19:27 they were worried about nifak what is
0:19:30 nifak hypocrisy
0:19:32 they were worried about nifak i believe
0:19:35 one sahabi he
0:19:39 he saw around 30 sahabah 30 companions
0:19:43 being worried about their nifak being
0:19:46 worried about the hypocrisy and i
0:19:47 believe it was
0:19:50 one of the giants of the companions of
0:19:52 the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
0:19:54 he chased one sahabi one companion who
0:19:56 had the list of
0:19:57 the monarchy the list of the hypocrites
0:20:00 because he was worried if his name
0:20:02 was on that list if his name was on that
0:20:04 list so if the companions who were like
0:20:07 the custodians of islam
0:20:08 custodians of the belief of islam they
0:20:11 internalized the theo philosophy of
0:20:13 islam
0:20:14 they conveyed islam they went through
0:20:16 the hardships and they preserved islam
0:20:18 these people themselves they were
0:20:19 worried about nifak
0:20:21 which reminds me of a statement of
0:20:22 sufyan al-thawri one of the greatest
0:20:24 scholars
0:20:25 in islam he basically said that he was
0:20:28 so worried about his intention
0:20:30 right which relates in some way to
0:20:33 shubha into the heart he was so worried
0:20:35 about
0:20:35 his intention that i think he had he was
0:20:39 internal bleeding or there was blood in
0:20:40 his urine what about abraham ibrahim
0:20:43 alaihissalam i think this is in chapter
0:20:45 ibrahim
0:20:46 go to chapter ibrahim chapter abraham it
0:20:49 says it very clearly
0:20:50 he supplicated to allah for him and his
0:20:54 family not to fall into idol worship
0:20:56 this is the destroyer of the idols
0:20:59 supplicated to allah
0:21:01 for him and his family not to fall into
0:21:04 shirk into idol worship
0:21:06 do you see my point here this
0:21:10 this because they had the correct
0:21:12 understanding they knew
0:21:13 the dangers of shubu hat they knew
0:21:16 dangers of these destructive doubts
0:21:18 and they also knew that really
0:21:21 the one who controls hearts is allah
0:21:24 subhanahu wa ta'ala
0:21:26 don't have this kind of urge this
0:21:28 self-amazement that you have got it
0:21:30 sorted
0:21:30 you've been waking up for fajr and going
0:21:32 to the mosque you think you're someone
0:21:34 special
0:21:34 then when that happens what happens you
0:21:36 don't go musk anymore
0:21:38 you fall into major sin and i'm telling
0:21:41 you if that happens is because of some
0:21:42 kind of urge of some kind of
0:21:45 some kind of self-amazement in your
0:21:46 heart because you felt you were the
0:21:48 cause of your own piety
0:21:50 and that's why i say sometimes things to
0:21:51 my family and other people
0:21:53 i see one of the greatest diseases the
0:21:56 greatest spiritual diseases or the
0:21:57 greatest form of arrogance is spiritual
0:21:59 arrogance
0:22:00 right spiritual arrogance you know
0:22:02 you're pious
0:22:03 you're praying five times a day you're
0:22:05 doing your remembrance you're reciting
0:22:07 the quran you're close to allah
0:22:10 you don't do anything wrong but
0:22:13 in your heart you believe it was because
0:22:15 of you
0:22:16 you believe it's because of you and that
0:22:20 is one of the worst forms
0:22:21 of arrogance that one can be in
0:22:24 it's it's a deluded state it's a deluded
0:22:26 state and we have to remember
0:22:28 as well that it's only through the mercy
0:22:30 of allah subhanahu wa
0:22:31 ta'ala that we're going to be saved
0:22:34 anyway even the prophet sallallahu
0:22:35 alaihi
0:22:36 said that he doesn't know what's going
0:22:37 to happen to him unless it's
0:22:39 it unless the mercy of allah envelops
0:22:41 him and we know there's a famous
0:22:43 tradition
0:22:43 that you know there's a kind of question
0:22:47 on the person on the day of judgement
0:22:48 you want to be saved by your deeds or by
0:22:50 allah's mercy and then
0:22:51 the guy says his deeds i think he gets
0:22:54 asked the question three times
0:22:55 and then if he's his deeds then you put
0:22:57 your his deeds on one side of the skull
0:22:59 and his eyesight or his eyes
0:23:02 on the other side of the scale and the
0:23:04 blessing of the eyes
0:23:05 just overpower all of the deeds that he
0:23:07 can do then he get and then he's
0:23:08 eligible for hell and i think he says
0:23:10 and
0:23:10 you can correct me if i'm wrong i'll
0:23:12 double check the prophetic tradition
0:23:14 later
0:23:15 but he's like i know no no i want to go
0:23:16 to practice because of mercy
0:23:18 and that's and that's it and i remember
0:23:20 i was speaking to sabor ahmed once in a
0:23:21 canteen and i was like uh
0:23:23 you know i just i have nothing else man
0:23:26 all i could rely on was allah's mercy
0:23:27 and he said saying so beautiful and he
0:23:28 made me choke and cry
0:23:30 and he said that's all you need and it's
0:23:32 so true that is all you need is allah's
0:23:34 mercy
0:23:35 anyway the point here is brothers and
0:23:37 sisters you should understand now do not
0:23:38 take
0:23:39 shubu hat lightly do not take
0:23:41 destructive doubts
0:23:42 lightly these are a tool that dark
0:23:46 forces
0:23:46 negative forces you could call them
0:23:49 obviously
0:23:50 shaytanic forces they're there to
0:23:53 ensure that they are attached on your
0:23:55 heart and they drain your iman they
0:23:57 drain your conviction they drain your
0:23:59 conviction in islam and your faith away
0:24:02 and and this happens and this happens it
0:24:04 happens to the best of us
0:24:06 it happens to the the the
0:24:09 some of the great giants of our
0:24:11 intellectual spiritual tradition so
0:24:13 you know hopefully this is enough for
0:24:15 you to realize don't drop your guard
0:24:18 you know in a boxing ring when you're
0:24:20 having a sparring session or a fight
0:24:23 you know it you have to keep your guard
0:24:25 up especially when you're beginning
0:24:27 the trainer would always say keep your
0:24:29 hands up the minute your hands are down
0:24:31 you're going to be eating punches left
0:24:34 right and center
0:24:35 keep your hands up to give you that
0:24:37 defense okay that's one of the basic
0:24:39 things that you learn
0:24:40 in even martial arts and boxing okay so
0:24:44 it's very important that we're aware
0:24:46 that they exist do not drop your guard
0:24:50 and this is extremely important
0:24:53 and the lesson for you and others is
0:24:55 very simple it's very simple
0:24:57 the lesson for you and others is very
0:24:59 simple just think about this analogy
0:25:02 imagine you are in a shark infested
0:25:04 waters
0:25:05 okay you're in shark infested waters and
0:25:08 these
0:25:08 these are human flesh-eating sharks
0:25:11 and these sharks are like you know
0:25:15 them a metaphor or an analogy for
0:25:19 the conflicting world views and the
0:25:21 shubohat and
0:25:22 the destructive doubts you're not going
0:25:25 to throw yourself into the ocean
0:25:27 in actual fact someone really stupid
0:25:30 or maybe even arrogant would throw
0:25:32 themselves into the ocean
0:25:35 now what islam gives you in terms of his
0:25:38 intellectual spiritual tradition it
0:25:39 gives you a way that if you were to go
0:25:41 into the ocean you can navigate to safe
0:25:43 areas in the ocean so you don't get
0:25:46 eaten by the flesh eating sharks
0:25:48 but the basic lesson here is if if
0:25:52 you're not in a position to deal with
0:25:53 shubu hearts then
0:25:55 the default position here is that you do
0:25:58 not
0:25:59 you you do not enter the ocean
0:26:02 you're aware that the ocean exists
0:26:06 and you're aware that flesh-eating
0:26:08 sharks are there
0:26:09 so give that awareness should prevent
0:26:11 you from entering entering into the
0:26:13 ocean
0:26:16 so this leads us to the second the
0:26:19 second
0:26:20 sorry not the second strategy which is
0:26:24 do not give it attention now this is an
0:26:26 interesting one
0:26:27 because this is before the chopin before
0:26:31 the destructive doubt
0:26:32 really enters into the heart but it's
0:26:35 somewhat
0:26:35 maybe sometimes may it might be at the
0:26:38 stage where it's latching onto the heart
0:26:40 so it's still a quasi before the shubha
0:26:43 is really entering in your heart to
0:26:45 drain
0:26:46 your iman to drain your conviction to
0:26:48 drain your spiritual intellectual
0:26:50 conviction
0:26:51 at the same time it could also be at the
0:26:53 stage where it's
0:26:54 sitting on the heart and before it
0:26:55 really enters
0:26:57 so the strategy here is when you start
0:27:00 to
0:27:01 have a shubu heart
0:27:05 then what you need to do is stop avoid
0:27:07 and ignore
0:27:08 okay stop avoid and ignore
0:27:11 for example say you're on social media
0:27:14 and you go to a youtube channel and it's
0:27:16 run by christian missionaries right
0:27:18 and there are unfortunately a few
0:27:20 christian missionary channels that are
0:27:22 there to try and
0:27:23 misrepresent islam okay and they've been
0:27:26 doing it recently for example
0:27:28 they've been talking about the so-called
0:27:29 preservation of the quran
0:27:32 and they're saying because of the
0:27:33 existence of the art
0:27:35 the different ways of reciting the quran
0:27:38 they say
0:27:39 that means there are different qurans
0:27:40 which is absolutely ridiculous
0:27:42 it is like so unlearned then you don't
0:27:44 know whether to laugh cry
0:27:46 or give them an intellectual slap
0:27:48 obviously not a physical one we you know
0:27:51 the prophet saws said there is no
0:27:52 harming and no reciprocating of harm
0:27:54 but an intellectual slab here and there
0:27:56 is no is no is not bad
0:27:57 it's okay it means that you are ticking
0:27:59 yourself with assertiveness and you're
0:28:00 teaching people
0:28:02 to be sincere with the tradition but
0:28:05 some people haven't studied the art the
0:28:08 aprov
0:28:09 they haven't studied you know the the
0:28:11 fact that the quran is the multi-form
0:28:13 text
0:28:14 the fact that the quran has a consonant
0:28:16 to doctors that is preserved
0:28:18 by mass reporting also known as
0:28:21 mutawatar
0:28:22 in the islamic tradition mass testimony
0:28:25 so
0:28:25 they don't understand these things right
0:28:28 so
0:28:28 if you're gonna since you know shubahat
0:28:31 exists
0:28:32 and you know now that that you've since
0:28:35 you've gone on to this channel
0:28:36 the shopha has come to you yeah so
0:28:40 you've heard about it but it's not
0:28:41 really entered into your heart it's
0:28:43 maybe
0:28:44 latched on but it hasn't really entered
0:28:47 what you need to do if you're not
0:28:48 equipped
0:28:50 or what you need to do as a primary
0:28:53 strategy because don't forget we've got
0:28:54 all these other strategies that we could
0:28:55 adopt as well but
0:28:56 as the primary strategy is you stop
0:28:58 avoiding ignore
0:29:00 that's what you do now this does not
0:29:02 mean the the
0:29:03 the destructive dao of the shubahat are
0:29:06 are strong
0:29:07 no they're not strong they're
0:29:09 intellectually weak remember
0:29:11 they are resembling resembling the truth
0:29:15 but their force
0:29:16 it's true it's falsehood dressed up so
0:29:18 it's it's falsehood dress up as truth
0:29:21 it's a it's a wolf in in in sheep's
0:29:23 clothing
0:29:24 so we have to understand that it's
0:29:26 because our hearts are weak
0:29:27 they waver that our hearts do that
0:29:30 they engage in wavering and changing
0:29:33 and the nature of shubuhat are like
0:29:36 parasites that
0:29:37 suck your iman suck your intellectual
0:29:39 spiritual conviction
0:29:41 and you just need to run away from them
0:29:42 if you go on to that channel and you've
0:29:44 heard the shubha
0:29:45 and it's starting to like sit onto onto
0:29:47 your heart but it hasn't really entered
0:29:50 stop avoid ignore stop avoid ignore
0:29:53 stop avoid and ignore
0:29:58 and really that's the prophetic advice
0:30:00 run away from them and we know this
0:30:02 from the famous hadith of the jan it's
0:30:04 an authentic hadith
0:30:06 in abu dhabi the messenger of allah
0:30:09 sallallahu alaihi wasallam said
0:30:11 peace and blessings be upon him whoever
0:30:14 hears news of the false messiah
0:30:16 let him flee from him by allah by god
0:30:20 a man will go to him considering himself
0:30:23 a believer
0:30:24 but will instead follow him because of
0:30:26 doubts he will present
0:30:28 so you we have to have to follow this
0:30:31 prophetic advice and this doesn't
0:30:32 mean that you can't if you're if you're
0:30:36 trained or you have good people around
0:30:37 you you have a good environment and you
0:30:38 adopt the other strategies that we're
0:30:40 going to talk about in the next couple
0:30:41 of weeks
0:30:42 you know it doesn't mean that you can't
0:30:44 be someone who deals with these shubu
0:30:45 hut
0:30:46 of course you can if in the right
0:30:48 context but as a standalone
0:30:51 strategy you know if you go to these
0:30:53 areas that you
0:30:54 don't really know how to deal with them
0:30:55 and you haven't adopted the other
0:30:56 strategies
0:30:57 it's just flee run away
0:31:00 stop avoid and ignore
0:31:07 and this is very interesting because uh
0:31:10 ibm
0:31:11 in his characteristics of the hypocrites
0:31:13 he says
0:31:14 whoever falls praise to the claws of
0:31:16 their doubts will have his faith
0:31:18 shredded to pieces
0:31:20 whoever allows his heart to open to the
0:31:22 vile tribulations will find himself a
0:31:24 burning furnace
0:31:25 and whoever lends an ear to their
0:31:27 deceptions will find them coming between
0:31:29 him and firm belief
0:31:30 indeed the corruption they cause on
0:31:32 earth is a great but most people are
0:31:34 unaware
0:31:35 and this is this is apt advice
0:31:38 this is very important advice because
0:31:40 sometimes we think we're so arrogant we
0:31:41 can deal with any intellectual spiritual
0:31:43 challenge
0:31:44 now remember do not have any
0:31:48 intellectual
0:31:48 basis or foundation okay
0:31:52 and we have to understand it's falsehood
0:31:56 dressed up as truth but we have to
0:32:00 understand
0:32:00 ourselves and our own hearts
0:32:03 and you know we understood the
0:32:04 metaphysical backdrop there are some
0:32:06 self-evident truths in islam that are
0:32:08 non-negotiable
0:32:10 such as the fact that god exists he's
0:32:12 worthy of worship and some
0:32:13 aspects of basic morality
0:32:17 and we have this fitra that if we
0:32:21 if it's clean if it's not clouded that
0:32:24 truth
0:32:25 will be awakened and obviously for the
0:32:28 other opinion if it's
0:32:29 if it's unclouded then it can direct
0:32:31 itself towards the truth
0:32:33 but actually i like those clouds in some
0:32:36 way
0:32:37 so we don't know how many clouds we have
0:32:41 over our fitrah that's preventing us
0:32:43 from seeing the truth within or
0:32:45 preventing us from being directed
0:32:46 towards the truth
0:32:48 so we shouldn't have this kind of
0:32:49 internal arrogance that we think we've
0:32:51 got it
0:32:52 obviously when you adopt the other
0:32:53 strategies that you're going to learn
0:32:54 throughout this course
0:32:55 such as finding a specialist having a
0:32:57 good environment studying
0:32:59 islamic knowledge critical thinking all
0:33:01 of these things
0:33:02 yes you'll be in a position to be able
0:33:04 to deal with this
0:33:06 but as a default position stop avoid
0:33:09 and ignore especially if you don't have
0:33:13 the other strategies in place
0:33:20 and if you remember what i said to you
0:33:22 this
0:33:23 strategy is really before the
0:33:25 destructive doubt
0:33:27 goes deep into your heart so what i mean
0:33:30 here
0:33:30 in the title it says if it enters well
0:33:32 if it starts to sit on the heart and
0:33:34 before it goes really deep and it's
0:33:35 maybe entered a little bit
0:33:37 there is something that you should do
0:33:40 stop and seek refuge okay and this
0:33:44 this is based on the two authentic the
0:33:46 the the authentic prophetic tradition
0:33:49 in bukhari and muslim as narrated by
0:33:51 al-bukhari and muslims
0:33:55 may allah may allah be pleased with him
0:33:58 he reports that the messenger of allah
0:34:00 sallallahu alaihi wasallam said
0:34:03 will come to one of you and he will say
0:34:05 who created this and that
0:34:06 and until he says to him who created
0:34:09 your lord
0:34:10 when it comes to this let him seek
0:34:13 refuge
0:34:14 let him seek refuge in allah and stop
0:34:17 such thoughts in another narration the
0:34:19 prophet sallallahu
0:34:20 alaihi wasallam said let him say
0:34:24 i have faith in allah
0:34:28 i have faith in allah
0:34:31 now obviously there is a philosophical
0:34:33 response to this and even in our islamic
0:34:34 intellectual tradition
0:34:36 he talks about something like this even
0:34:39 even even tamiya about
0:34:40 the absurdity of the infinite regress of
0:34:42 causes right it's absurd to have
0:34:44 you know someone creating god or
0:34:47 something creating god because then what
0:34:48 created that thing if that goes on
0:34:49 forever then you'll never have creation
0:34:51 in the first place
0:34:52 now obviously i don't want to get into
0:34:53 that for now you can go to the sapience
0:34:55 institute website
0:34:56 if you go into the menu i'm going to go
0:34:59 to
0:34:59 read and go to answers uh you'll be able
0:35:01 to find
0:35:02 an answer that's that that's titled who
0:35:05 created god question mark and it
0:35:06 thoroughly
0:35:07 uh deals with it on a logical
0:35:08 perspective talks about a law of
0:35:10 causality talks about the absurdity of
0:35:12 the infinite regress of causes but what
0:35:14 i want to focus on here
0:35:16 is the prophetic advice the the advice
0:35:18 of the prophet sallallahu alaihi
0:35:19 wasallam because he gave us some really
0:35:22 good advice because
0:35:23 if you think about it it he
0:35:27 was saying he's clearly highlighting
0:35:30 that harboring such
0:35:31 thoughts about allah have a spiritual
0:35:33 basis it's not just an intellectual
0:35:35 thing
0:35:35 right because you know when you convince
0:35:38 someone about the absurdity of the
0:35:40 infinite regress of causes when you
0:35:41 convince someone about
0:35:42 the kind of illogical perspective of
0:35:45 saying that
0:35:46 the uncreated creator is created which
0:35:48 is ridiculous like saying you know
0:35:49 there's a square triangle
0:35:51 you know when you when you convince them
0:35:52 intellectually their heart is still
0:35:54 wavering about this issue
0:35:56 so it's very profound advice the prophet
0:35:58 salallahu is saying that this is not
0:36:00 basically
0:36:00 an intellectual doubt per se it's it may
0:36:03 have underlying spiritual causes
0:36:05 and the prophet salallahu is giving us a
0:36:07 spiritual solution which is seek refuge
0:36:09 in allah
0:36:10 seek refuge in allah stop such thoughts
0:36:13 and in another narration say i have
0:36:14 faith in allah
0:36:15 make that kind of spiritual affirmation
0:36:17 okay
0:36:19 make that spiritual affirmation it's
0:36:20 interesting ibn tamiya writes about this
0:36:22 he says it is known by necessity in
0:36:24 human nature for all who have sound
0:36:27 nature among the children of adam
0:36:28 that the question is invalid it is not
0:36:30 possible for the creator of the cr
0:36:32 of the creation to have a creator if he
0:36:34 had a creator he would be created
0:36:36 himself
0:36:37 and will not be the creator of
0:36:38 everything
0:36:40 but notwithstanding it's very important
0:36:43 to understand that
0:36:45 these this type of this type of
0:36:47 destructive doubt
0:36:48 is has a spiritual basis so follow the
0:36:51 spiritual advice first and foremost
0:36:54 seek refuge in allah stop such thoughts
0:36:58 and let him say i have faith in allah
0:37:00 subhanallah what to add
0:37:05 so what's the lesson here for you and
0:37:07 others what is the lesson
0:37:09 the lesson is if you dive into the sea
0:37:11 what's going to happen
0:37:14 what's going to happen if you dive into
0:37:15 the sea
0:37:20 if you dive into the sea
0:37:23 what's going to happen is you're going
0:37:25 to get wet
0:37:28 so if you don't want to get wet what are
0:37:30 you going to do
0:37:33 don't dive into the sea no this sounds
0:37:35 really simple
0:37:36 but you know i want to simplify the
0:37:39 lesson here as much as possible
0:37:41 if you dive into the sea when you dive
0:37:43 into this you get wet
0:37:44 if you don't want to get wet don't dive
0:37:46 into the sea you avoid
0:37:48 the cliffs you avoid areas where you can
0:37:51 fall in
0:37:52 you avoid crowds where people can push
0:37:55 you in
0:37:56 you avoid the wind if me you know if
0:37:59 that's going to push you into whatever
0:38:00 the case may be
0:38:01 you avoid and you stop yourself
0:38:05 from falling into the sea because you
0:38:07 will get wet
0:38:09 you will get wet so instead of spending
0:38:12 time
0:38:12 drying yourself or putting the right
0:38:14 equipment like this gentleman has
0:38:16 in the picture with his scuba diving
0:38:19 suit and the oxygen and the glasses
0:38:21 you know those these are all the
0:38:22 strategies that we're going to use that
0:38:23 can help us
0:38:25 you know uh navigate the sea of doubts
0:38:27 properly for sure
0:38:29 but in the beginning if you don't want
0:38:31 to get wet then don't get into the sea
0:38:34 stop ignore and avoid
0:38:38 now i want to make it very clear here
0:38:39 before we go to the final distinction
0:38:41 that we're going to talk about today i
0:38:42 want to make it very clear
0:38:44 that are annihilated
0:38:47 based on the fact if you adopt all of
0:38:50 these strategies
0:38:50 if you study islam if you have critical
0:38:52 thinking you study theo philosophy you
0:38:54 study islamic creed
0:38:56 you you strengthen your heart i truly
0:38:58 believe the islamic intellectual
0:39:00 spiritual tradition
0:39:01 has what it takes and it has the tools
0:39:04 intellectual spiritual tools
0:39:05 to annihilate all of these doubts for
0:39:06 sure but
0:39:08 the the strategies we're talking about
0:39:10 thus far
0:39:12 uh especially for those who don't have
0:39:14 those things in place
0:39:15 and not just that and it's also to make
0:39:17 you realize that you should have a
0:39:19 default position don't have the
0:39:20 spiritual arrogance and
0:39:22 or this epistemic arrogance that you
0:39:24 think that's i'm able to do with this
0:39:26 when you get into the sea you're going
0:39:28 to get wet
0:39:29 so you have to understand that these are
0:39:32 the default things that you should put
0:39:33 into place
0:39:34 when dealing with and obviously when you
0:39:37 go through
0:39:38 the rest of the course you'll understand
0:39:39 that the strategies that we're going to
0:39:42 help you with they're just phenomenal
0:39:45 they'll eat up
0:39:46 muhat like like candy inshallah
0:39:50 so the next the next
0:39:54 the next strategy strategy number three
0:39:58 is to make the distinction
0:40:00 make the distinction which basically
0:40:02 means make the distinction between
0:40:05 the heart doubts destructive doubts
0:40:08 valid questions and waswasa
0:40:11 and shaytanic whisperings sometimes the
0:40:15 problem is we think all three are the
0:40:16 same
0:40:17 or we confuse them and we conflate them
0:40:20 so this is really again before the
0:40:22 and before it enters
0:40:25 and it could be and it could be for
0:40:26 after as well but
0:40:28 generally speaking is for before and
0:40:31 maybe where it's when it's just latched
0:40:32 on to the heart but hasn't really
0:40:34 entered deeply
0:40:35 this would help you to deal with this
0:40:38 effectively so let me first
0:40:40 tell you why making distinctions are
0:40:41 very important now
0:40:44 someone who's not knowledgeable okay
0:40:46 let's see if you could use the chat
0:40:48 or the questions here actually use the
0:40:50 chat because the questions are there's
0:40:52 about
0:40:52 43 questions already so use the chat
0:40:54 there's nothing there at the moment
0:40:56 and just use it for this does anyone
0:40:59 know the difference between these plants
0:41:01 or these trees or these leaves or these
0:41:03 or this greenery or foliage or whatever
0:41:06 you want to call it does anyone know
0:41:07 what these are
0:41:10 does anyone know
0:41:15 nope no one's typing anything
0:41:18 so you have the slides in front of you
0:41:20 and you see three different pictures of
0:41:22 obviously three different
0:41:24 types of plants
0:41:28 do you know what they are
0:41:34 you know what they are
0:41:39 nope they're not daisies
0:41:46 nope they're not clover i don't think
0:41:48 they're clover
0:41:52 i only know the middle one okay
0:41:55 this is a good exercise because
0:41:58 at this stage we do not have the
0:42:00 distinction
0:42:01 because distinctions empower you at the
0:42:04 moment
0:42:05 for someone like a layman like myself
0:42:07 all i can see
0:42:08 is fine they're different colors and
0:42:10 shapes but you know what they're just
0:42:11 plants man
0:42:13 i don't have the distinction to empower
0:42:16 me
0:42:17 to know what plants they are and how to
0:42:20 use them
0:42:21 i repeat i do not have the distinction
0:42:26 i cannot make the distinction between
0:42:27 them to understand
0:42:29 what plants they are and what uses they
0:42:32 have
0:42:33 for me at the moment all i see is
0:42:35 different color plants
0:42:38 but when i have the distinction that
0:42:39 they're medicinal plants
0:42:42 echinacea feverfew and ginkgo
0:42:45 and i not only know their names but i
0:42:48 know how to recognize them
0:42:49 and i know which plant is good for which
0:42:53 element
0:42:54 then now i have a distinction that
0:42:56 empowers me
0:42:59 this is why it's very important to be
0:43:01 able to make distinctions
0:43:05 making distinctions are very important
0:43:07 and that happens through
0:43:09 a relation between yourself or someone
0:43:11 else or even a book
0:43:13 that helps you to think about
0:43:16 making clear distinctions
0:43:20 you need to be able to make distinctions
0:43:23 in your life and with these so-called
0:43:25 doubts or whisperings or
0:43:28 questions that you may have they're not
0:43:30 the same
0:43:32 you need to be able to be
0:43:35 you need to be empowered via
0:43:39 the use of distinctions because if we go
0:43:42 back
0:43:44 when you have no knowledge of these
0:43:46 they're just different kind of plants
0:43:48 but when you're empowered through
0:43:50 questioning learning etc experience
0:43:52 relaying with others relaying with
0:43:54 information
0:43:55 now you have distinctions one is
0:43:58 akineshia one is fifty one is ginkgo
0:44:00 akinishi is good for the immune system
0:44:01 fever fear is good for so on and so
0:44:04 forth and ginkgo is good for so on and
0:44:06 so forth
0:44:06 and you know the medicinal plants you
0:44:08 could recognize them and you know
0:44:09 when to use them how to use them what
0:44:11 dosage now you've made distinctions
0:44:14 and it's through these distinctions that
0:44:16 give you power
0:44:21 and they empower you spiritually i
0:44:22 remember i was in pakistan i was giving
0:44:23 a lecture
0:44:25 and i think i was talking about the
0:44:26 mercy and forgiveness of allah subhanahu
0:44:27 wa ta'ala
0:44:28 when allah says yeah ibadi o my
0:44:30 believing servants do not despair of the
0:44:32 mercy of allah for allah forgives all
0:44:33 sins
0:44:34 she was crying and she visibly looked
0:44:36 like a practicing knowledgeable woman
0:44:39 hijab jibbab etc she had the whole
0:44:42 attire
0:44:43 but she was crying and for what i
0:44:45 remember
0:44:47 she thought allah would never forgive
0:44:48 her
0:44:52 she didn't she wasn't empowered
0:44:54 spiritually or even intellectually
0:44:56 she couldn't make the distinction
0:44:59 between her sin and allah's forgiveness
0:45:05 because our sins do not limit the
0:45:07 forgiveness of allah subhanallah
0:45:10 our sins do not
0:45:15 limit the mercy of allah wa
0:45:21 and the minute she was able to make the
0:45:24 distinction
0:45:25 she broke down into tears and she was
0:45:28 empowered spiritually
0:45:30 how is that going to change her life now
0:45:33 how in such an amazing way like the past
0:45:37 will become the past
0:45:38 she will take responsibility she'll do
0:45:40 toba
0:45:41 she'll repent and if she falls into sin
0:45:43 again she knows exactly what to do to
0:45:45 gain the mercy of allah
0:45:47 but you know the doors of mercy are
0:45:49 always open
0:45:51 and whoever closes them that's the
0:45:53 shaitaan by definition
0:45:56 whoever closes the door to allah's mercy
0:45:58 is technically a shaytan
0:46:01 because it's always open you need to
0:46:03 learn how to walk through them
0:46:04 and her distinction was she could
0:46:09 now understand that allah forgives all
0:46:11 sins and there's a way to walk through
0:46:13 that door of mercy
0:46:14 so distinctions give you power from that
0:46:17 point of view
0:46:19 so we need to be able to make
0:46:20 distinctions just like the first slide
0:46:22 concerning this distinction section
0:46:25 there were just three plants
0:46:27 and all you can see are just three
0:46:30 plants
0:46:30 you can't recognize them they've got
0:46:32 different colors different shapes
0:46:34 but they're just three plants for you
0:46:35 because you're not empowered with the
0:46:37 distinctions
0:46:38 you haven't made a distinction but the
0:46:41 minute
0:46:41 through relating with others relating
0:46:43 with information experience
0:46:45 you know that one now is akineshia the
0:46:47 other one is fema feud the other one is
0:46:49 ginkgo
0:46:50 and you know the medicinal plants and
0:46:51 you know what dosage you could use
0:46:53 for each different element now you've
0:46:55 made the distinction that gives you
0:46:56 power
0:46:58 and this is why we need to be able to
0:47:00 make distinctions when it comes to our
0:47:02 hearts and you we need to just make a
0:47:05 distinction between
0:47:07 shaytanic whisperings make a distinction
0:47:09 between
0:47:11 valid questions and shupa and shubohat
0:47:15 and doubts so let's now learn about
0:47:18 making the distinctions okay and that
0:47:20 will give us spiritual intellectual
0:47:21 power
0:47:22 the first one is waswasa spiritual
0:47:26 whisperings shaytanic whisperings
0:47:28 negative whisperings
0:47:29 now here here is what you need to
0:47:31 understand vice versa
0:47:33 are thoughts that you do not agree with
0:47:37 you do not believe in you don't believe
0:47:40 that they are justified and you have a
0:47:42 psychological aversion to them
0:47:46 let me give you the proof of the islamic
0:47:48 tradition
0:47:50 in sahih muslim the prophet
0:47:58 may not be pleased with him said some of
0:48:00 the companions of the messenger of allah
0:48:02 hussain came to the prophet said to him
0:48:04 we find in ourselves thoughts that
0:48:06 are too terrible to speak of he said are
0:48:08 you really suffering from that
0:48:09 they said yes he said this is a clear
0:48:11 sign of faith
0:48:14 in a related prophetic tradition in
0:48:16 sahih bukhari abu hurairah
0:48:20 said that truly allah has overlooked for
0:48:24 my ummah
0:48:24 for that which is whispered or the which
0:48:28 is thought about in the lower self as
0:48:30 long as it's not act upon it or speak
0:48:31 about it
0:48:33 so we have a few things here
0:48:36 the sahaba the companions had a
0:48:37 psychological aversion they obviously
0:48:39 didn't agree with it they didn't believe
0:48:41 in it
0:48:42 and according to the prophet sallallahu
0:48:44 alaihi this was a sign of iman
0:48:46 it's a sign of faith and the strategy
0:48:50 here is do not
0:48:51 act or talk about them and ignore them
0:48:55 simple as that and these are whisperings
0:48:59 they're not destructive doubts and do
0:49:00 not allow them to become destructive
0:49:02 doubts
0:49:02 by taking them seriously i like to talk
0:49:04 about the mind is like this
0:49:06 this clear sky blue sky and sometimes
0:49:09 these whisperings are like dark clouds
0:49:12 let the dark clouds disappear man
0:49:15 don't hold on to the dark cloud thing it
0:49:17 is yours and
0:49:18 the minute you hold it it's gonna rain
0:49:21 full of doubts
0:49:22 yeah just let it go
0:49:25 when i first became muslim oh my god
0:49:27 you're gonna laugh at this yeah
0:49:30 so obviously in when you do the prayer
0:49:32 obviously the prayer is the most
0:49:34 important spiritual act you can do to
0:49:35 connect with god
0:49:38 and you know the islamic prayer is not
0:49:39 just a prayer you're asking for
0:49:40 something it's a movement it's a sound
0:49:42 it's a remembrance it's
0:49:44 a contemplation a reflection it's a
0:49:45 supplication it's a asking it's a
0:49:48 it's a divine dialogue it's it's
0:49:51 phenomenal
0:49:52 it's like a spiritual program yeah um
0:49:56 and when i first became muslim you know
0:49:59 obviously you have to be in a state of
0:50:00 abolution when you wash your like
0:50:02 a mouth nose face uh you wipe your head
0:50:05 behind the ears
0:50:07 wash your arms hands feet etc yeah
0:50:11 and uh when you're in that state you
0:50:14 could break that state so obviously
0:50:16 in the islamic tradition when you pass
0:50:19 wind you break that state
0:50:20 and also when you have pass yeah but
0:50:23 there's a there's a there's a
0:50:24 there's a jurisprudential understanding
0:50:25 of what pus is it's it looks like
0:50:27 passport has to smell i believe as well
0:50:30 i have to uh look back on my learning
0:50:33 but
0:50:34 just take it for granted for now it has
0:50:36 to smell but anyway so what happened
0:50:38 what was the wasp
0:50:39 for me when i saw a white dot on my arm
0:50:41 for example
0:50:42 i know it sounds really weird and stupid
0:50:44 but i'm giving you this so you know it
0:50:45 happens to everybody
0:50:47 when i saw a white dog on my arm i was
0:50:49 like that possibly could be pus
0:50:52 it didn't fulfill the criteria of plus
0:50:54 it didn't smell it didn't look like plus
0:50:55 but
0:50:56 i i just thought it could be then i felt
0:50:59 i don't know where it came from so it
0:51:01 could have come from anywhere
0:51:02 so what i used to do change all my
0:51:04 clothes and have a full shower
0:51:06 i think maybe sometimes three four five
0:51:07 times a day it was crazy
0:51:10 it was absolutely crazy man but okay
0:51:12 alhamdulillah i'm over that now
0:51:14 but you get over that with elm you know
0:51:16 with gaining knowledge
0:51:17 and stuff like that but if i knew this
0:51:20 strategy this was just a whispering
0:51:22 then i would just basically just avoided
0:51:24 it
0:51:26 and completely because that is one of
0:51:28 the the the strategies don't act
0:51:30 and talk about it and just clearly avoid
0:51:32 it
0:51:35 uh another issue is when i spoke to
0:51:37 someone this was
0:51:38 a while back it was a brother's wife
0:51:42 and you know we had a skype session all
0:51:45 of us together i think was skype
0:51:46 or we had like a whatsapp session and
0:51:49 you know she sounded very learned and
0:51:52 you know from experience you can tell
0:51:54 when someone has
0:51:55 a vatted doubt on all and for me this
0:51:57 was
0:51:58 101 it was basic understanding this she
0:52:01 had
0:52:02 just whisperings wasp negative shaytanic
0:52:05 whisperings
0:52:06 and he was over things like oh i don't
0:52:08 know god exists and i was like look man
0:52:10 prove to me god exists and she was
0:52:12 brilliant she was articulate
0:52:13 she great knowledge of theology i think
0:52:15 it was over this issue
0:52:17 anyway but she was really articulate i
0:52:18 would ask her questions you know what
0:52:20 how would you answer the question
0:52:21 yourself and she answered it brilliantly
0:52:23 right
0:52:24 but she's still having this kind of like
0:52:25 non-intellectual whispering and she felt
0:52:28 that
0:52:28 oh my god maybe i'm not muslim what's
0:52:30 going on all of this stuff i said listen
0:52:31 to me
0:52:32 you have answered the questions your
0:52:34 theology is on point your philosophy is
0:52:36 on point kind of thing your
0:52:38 your intellect is great you could answer
0:52:40 the questions so why do you still have
0:52:41 this this is
0:52:42 clearly a shaytanic whispering what you
0:52:44 need to do is totally
0:52:46 ignore it even if it consumes you for
0:52:48 the whole day
0:52:49 and over time it will disappear
0:52:52 and many people have adopted this
0:52:54 strategy and it's fundamentally worked
0:52:56 fundamentally it has worked for them
0:52:58 because they have
0:53:00 been able to make a distinction that
0:53:01 these are just like shaytanic
0:53:03 whisperings to prevent you from coming
0:53:04 closer to god
0:53:05 you don't really believe in them you
0:53:08 have an aversion to them
0:53:10 and you have a psychological aversion
0:53:13 and you don't
0:53:14 agree with them that's a sign of iman
0:53:16 that's a sign of faith
0:53:18 now all you need to do is don't act upon
0:53:20 it don't speak about it and just ignore
0:53:21 it
0:53:22 so
0:53:25 that's whispering so we made a
0:53:26 distinction with the whisperings on
0:53:28 let's just repeat
0:53:29 you have a psychological aversion you
0:53:30 don't believe in it
0:53:32 you and you um
0:53:35 uh yeah and you don't believe it has any
0:53:37 kind of intellectual strength
0:53:39 that's a sign of faith and what you need
0:53:41 to do is don't speak about it don't act
0:53:43 upon it and totally ignore it if you
0:53:45 follow that strategy
0:53:47 shaytanic whisperings will just
0:53:48 disappear if you don't they may
0:53:50 end up becoming shubu hearts okay
0:53:54 so questions
0:53:58 questions are not whisperings and
0:54:00 questions are not
0:54:03 don't confuse make a distinction here so
0:54:06 how can we make the distinction that
0:54:07 questions valid questions are not
0:54:09 shaytanic whisperings and they are not
0:54:12 shubahat
0:54:13 well the way to make the distinctions is
0:54:15 number one
0:54:16 that they don't undermine your belief or
0:54:19 make you distort islam in any way
0:54:21 okay they don't undermine your belief
0:54:24 like the basic foundations
0:54:27 and they do not distort islam in some
0:54:31 way
0:54:31 and remember the the companions of the
0:54:33 prophet muhammad had valid questions too
0:54:37 and you need to understand that we're
0:54:38 not gonna know everything we have
0:54:40 epistemic limitations
0:54:42 so if we're sincere and we really
0:54:44 believe in islam and its foundations we
0:54:46 believe in allah we believe it's worthy
0:54:47 of worship we believe in the prophet
0:54:50 then no questions are not
0:54:55 questions are not destructive doubts
0:54:58 so how can we make the distinction in a
0:55:01 practical way
0:55:02 for example
0:55:06 you may have a question and you may ask
0:55:09 something like
0:55:10 you know there is a prophetic tradition
0:55:12 of the prophet muhammad sallallahu
0:55:13 alaihi wasallam
0:55:15 and it basically says that the sun
0:55:19 prostrates to god and asks its
0:55:21 permission to continue
0:55:22 its orbit or its movement to that
0:55:25 nearest effect
0:55:28 how do you understand this in light of
0:55:30 contemporary empirical reality
0:55:33 now you're not undermining god's
0:55:35 existence you're not undermining the
0:55:37 fact that he's worthy of worship you're
0:55:38 not undermining the prophet salallahu
0:55:41 believe in this prophetic tradition you
0:55:42 know it's true because it came
0:55:44 from the one who was inspired by god he
0:55:47 it came from the final prophet
0:55:49 muhammad but you have a valid question
0:55:52 and then you get it answered you're like
0:55:54 oh you know that's a very interesting
0:55:55 question because you've
0:55:57 accidentally maybe imposed an empirical
0:56:00 dimension in this prophetic tradition
0:56:01 this is more
0:56:02 metaphysics you know where is the
0:56:05 forehead and the arms of the sun for it
0:56:07 to prostrate so it's frustrations not
0:56:08 the way that you know
0:56:09 it could be that it's just obeying the
0:56:12 laws of the universe that god put in
0:56:14 place
0:56:14 simple as that so gave you more
0:56:17 distinctions
0:56:18 yeah gave you a really good answer to
0:56:20 really satisfy that question right
0:56:23 so that's like a valid question you know
0:56:26 insincere you want to dismantle
0:56:28 the basis of islam you don't want to
0:56:30 distort the fundamentals of distorted
0:56:32 islam in any way
0:56:33 it's a valid question you still believe
0:56:35 in allah you believe it's worthy of
0:56:36 worship
0:56:37 you believe in the finality of the
0:56:39 prophet muhammad sallallahu alaihi
0:56:41 he's the final prophet he's inspired by
0:56:43 allah he is
0:56:44 he taught us how to worship allah and he
0:56:46 is our guide
0:56:47 and our spiritual master and so on and
0:56:49 so forth but this
0:56:50 you know you believe in this prophetic
0:56:52 tradition because you know it's
0:56:53 authentic
0:56:54 but you just can't understand it okay
0:56:56 that's a valid question
0:56:58 do not do not allow that to turn into
0:57:02 in super hearts into into a super rather
0:57:05 don't allow that to be a destructive
0:57:06 doubt now
0:57:07 because when you have distinctions then
0:57:10 you'll be able to
0:57:11 take control over your spiritual state
0:57:13 to some degree by the will of allah
0:57:15 so it's a valid question i'm going to go
0:57:17 to a specialist which is the irony we're
0:57:18 not the irony but the interesting thing
0:57:20 is that's one of our strategies that
0:57:21 we're going to learn throughout the next
0:57:22 couple of weeks
0:57:23 when you go to a specialist they'll give
0:57:25 you these answers or even
0:57:26 learning islamic knowledge yourself
0:57:28 you'll be able to give you these answers
0:57:30 because we're standing on the shoulders
0:57:32 of giants
0:57:33 our classical scholars you know unpack
0:57:35 these answers for us
0:57:36 in principle or specifically in our
0:57:39 tradition you know we have a very rich
0:57:41 tradition we're standing on the shadows
0:57:42 of giants
0:57:43 but the example i want to give you here
0:57:45 was to show that that is a valid
0:57:47 question
0:57:48 and you could just you know do have a
0:57:50 narrative with yourself have a dialogue
0:57:52 i believe in allah i believe is where
0:57:53 the worship i believe in the prophet i
0:57:55 believe in the authentic prophetic
0:57:56 teachings okay good
0:57:59 and i believe in this particular
0:58:01 authentic teaching but i don't
0:58:03 understand it
0:58:04 so i'm going to ask a question perfect
0:58:08 not insincere it's not distorting islam
0:58:11 it's not affecting the foundations of
0:58:12 islam no problem
0:58:14 obviously there are other questions that
0:58:16 you may want to raise here when
0:58:18 sometimes someone may come across that
0:58:19 they have a valid question about the
0:58:21 foundations of islam
0:58:23 well the same thing applies you can have
0:58:25 a valid question about the foundations
0:58:26 of islam but i still believe in the
0:58:28 foundations of islam
0:58:29 right because the reason you believe
0:58:33 in the foundations for other reasons
0:58:35 other than that question
0:58:36 right so for example i can believe in
0:58:38 the authenticity of the prophetic
0:58:40 traditions
0:58:41 based upon testimonial evidence
0:58:45 because a scholar that i respect and
0:58:47 trust has
0:58:49 told me it's authentic but i may have a
0:58:52 question thinking well
0:58:54 how do you know it's authentic and maybe
0:58:56 i want to go deeper into
0:58:58 hadith the science of hadith the science
0:59:00 of prophetic traditions and
0:59:02 how the islamic scholars authenticated
0:59:04 prophetic traditions right
0:59:06 so i might have a question about the
0:59:08 foundation of the sunnah
0:59:10 the foundation of the act the actions
0:59:12 and the behaviors and the statements
0:59:14 and the consent and the silence of the
0:59:17 prophet sallallahu alaihi
0:59:18 i may have a question about its
0:59:19 foundation but still believe in it right
0:59:21 so i could i could i could still believe
0:59:23 in it and not want to distort it
0:59:25 and not and not uh
0:59:28 and and not want to undermine the
0:59:30 foundations of islam in this
0:59:32 case the foundations of the prophetic
0:59:33 way the sunnah but i have a question
0:59:35 about the foundations that's not an
0:59:37 issue as long as you can make that
0:59:38 distinction
0:59:40 it would only be a shubha if that
0:59:43 question itself
0:59:44 makes you deny the sunnah and makes you
0:59:47 ignore
0:59:48 all the other valid ways of establishing
0:59:50 that that is the sunnah
0:59:52 that's the problem so in a nutshell
0:59:56 questions are not what sir valid
0:59:59 questions are things that don't
1:00:01 undermine your belief or leave you
1:00:02 distort is distorted some in any way
1:00:04 the sahaba the companions had questions
1:00:06 we're not going to know everything we
1:00:07 have epistemic limitations
1:00:09 we're never go never gonna know
1:00:11 everything even when you study the
1:00:12 western philosophical tradition
1:00:14 epistemology the study of knowledge one
1:00:16 of the sources of knowledge is testimony
1:00:18 authentic testimony
1:00:19 just like what dr elizabeth fricker said
1:00:22 given that my
1:00:23 limitations as parametric i'm never
1:00:25 going to know everything basically
1:00:27 i have to refer to the authority of
1:00:29 others we see this
1:00:30 in every sphere of our life when i go to
1:00:32 the doctor
1:00:34 and i give them give her my or him my
1:00:36 symptoms and
1:00:37 he or she gives me medicine i don't
1:00:39 start questioning her background
1:00:41 questioning his background questioning
1:00:43 his medical expertise and i okay i may
1:00:45 go for a second opinion but the point is
1:00:46 i don't question them to that degree
1:00:48 and when i be when i'm given the
1:00:50 medicine i don't start questioning the
1:00:52 chemical
1:00:52 structure of that compound right
1:00:56 i don't have the knowledge i submit by
1:00:58 virtue of the fact that i have epistemic
1:01:00 limitations limitations of my knowledge
1:01:02 and i have to
1:01:03 uh submit to the status of others in
1:01:04 many ways and this exists in every
1:01:06 domain of knowledge even in science
1:01:09 has progressed so far you just have to
1:01:11 rely on the safety of others you can't
1:01:13 do it yourself even if it's a repeatable
1:01:15 experiment
1:01:16 you don't have the time you don't have
1:01:18 the resources you have to focus on this
1:01:20 specific thing
1:01:21 this particular domain or knowledge
1:01:22 within science as you relate to other
1:01:24 domains of knowledge but you have to
1:01:26 accept that and refer to those other
1:01:28 domains of knowledge without even
1:01:29 investigating yourself because you just
1:01:31 don't have
1:01:32 the epistemic uh apparatus or
1:01:35 resources to do that or access you just
1:01:38 have to rely on the sales of others
1:01:39 it reminds me of the debate i had with
1:01:40 professor lawrence krauss and i wanted
1:01:43 to
1:01:43 expose his metaphysical presupposition
1:01:45 because he said you know everything
1:01:47 all knowledge comes from touch and feel
1:01:49 you know the empirical world and i
1:01:50 wanted to expose that presupposition
1:01:52 and he said you know what other sources
1:01:54 of knowledge and i basically said
1:01:55 testimony and he almost naked at me
1:01:57 i said well let me show you this and i
1:01:59 said do you believe in evolution he's
1:02:00 like yes
1:02:01 i do the science i said why you don't
1:02:03 know have you done all the experiments
1:02:04 yourself and he said no
1:02:06 well there you go your belief your
1:02:09 conviction even a scientific conviction
1:02:12 concerning evolution is fundamentally
1:02:14 not just based on your own experiments
1:02:16 is based on external reading of other
1:02:18 research and experiments which you
1:02:20 haven't done yourself
1:02:21 even if they're repeatable so we can't
1:02:24 run away from testimony meaning that we
1:02:25 have
1:02:26 epistemic limitations and you know we're
1:02:28 not going to know everything so
1:02:29 questions are valid don't worry about
1:02:31 that as long as
1:02:32 we're sincere and that we believe in
1:02:34 islam we don't
1:02:35 undermine or doubt the fundamentals we
1:02:37 could still even question the
1:02:38 fundamentals
1:02:40 if we still believe in them because of
1:02:42 other reasons and we would know like
1:02:43 well how
1:02:44 do the scholars do this or why is it the
1:02:47 case i believe in allah i know he's
1:02:49 a worthy of worship but i want to
1:02:50 explore this a little bit further
1:02:53 so let's unpack that in the q and a as
1:02:54 well inshaallah so finally in this
1:02:56 section
1:02:57 doubts very simple
1:03:01 it's a falsehood that undermines the
1:03:03 fundamentals of islam
1:03:04 or distorts the religion in any way
1:03:08 okay and it makes you be to be unsure
1:03:11 about the truth of the fundamentals of
1:03:13 the islamic faith
1:03:15 once that happens then no that is a
1:03:17 shabbah
1:03:19 those are those are destructive doubts
1:03:22 that destroy the fundamentals of the
1:03:25 islamic faith
1:03:26 they destroy the religion and they
1:03:29 distort of the religion in some way
1:03:31 and if you've come along to the point
1:03:33 where
1:03:35 you're affected by shubahat in that way
1:03:39 hopefully making the distinctions will
1:03:41 help you but if you're already affected
1:03:44 then the other strategies are going to
1:03:46 help that you're going to learn the next
1:03:47 couple of weeks such as
1:03:48 learning islamic knowledge correctly
1:03:50 holistic
1:03:51 islamic knowledge taking care of your
1:03:53 heart from a spiritual point of view
1:03:56 critical thinking learning about islamic
1:03:58 philosophy theo philosophy islamic
1:04:00 thought
1:04:00 asking a specialist when you go and deal
1:04:02 with all of these
1:04:04 it deals with once the shop has entered
1:04:07 you and that's why these first three
1:04:08 strategies were really
1:04:10 mostly for before the doubt has affected
1:04:13 okay so making a distinction helps you
1:04:17 when the hasn't really entered your
1:04:19 heart and is draining your faith
1:04:22 because you make that distinction to
1:04:23 this to make a distinction between your
1:04:26 destructive doubts your valid questions
1:04:28 and your waswasa
1:04:30 because sometimes we may think we have
1:04:31 destructive does but they really just
1:04:32 was wasan you know how to deal with it
1:04:34 now
1:04:35 and you may think you have a destructive
1:04:36 but they're just really valid questions
1:04:37 so you know how to deal with it now ask
1:04:38 someone
1:04:39 yeah which relates to another to the
1:04:41 other strategy we're going to learn the
1:04:42 next couple of weeks which is ask a
1:04:44 specialist
1:04:45 or or learn islamic knowledge
1:04:47 holistically
1:04:48 which is another strategy but the point
1:04:49 is making a distinction between shubohat
1:04:52 waswasa and valid questions helps you
1:04:56 if you just have wasan if you just have
1:04:58 valid questions
1:04:59 but if you'll be now if the shubha has
1:05:02 not only attached itself to the heart
1:05:03 but it's time to drain your faith
1:05:05 then what you're going to learn in the
1:05:06 next couple of weeks is the strategies
1:05:09 that you're going to adopt
1:05:10 to remove them completely inshaallah
1:05:15 so the lesson for you and others here is
1:05:17 very simple
1:05:21 medical symptoms right
1:05:24 if we're able to make a distinction
1:05:26 between different set of medical
1:05:27 symptoms then we'll be able to find what
1:05:29 the disease is and find the right
1:05:30 medicine
1:05:32 but if you're a doctor that thinks all
1:05:34 the medical symptoms even if they
1:05:35 contradict
1:05:36 each other and they change and they're
1:05:37 different and the different set of
1:05:38 symptoms they
1:05:39 you're always going to say it's just the
1:05:40 flu then when you give them
1:05:42 the medicine it's just not it's not
1:05:44 going to work
1:05:46 so this is the lesson for you and others
1:05:49 is this is very similar to a doctor when
1:05:51 we learn about symptoms
1:05:53 and how the nuances of symptoms and the
1:05:55 subtleties and how they correlate to
1:05:57 certain diseases and what medicine
1:05:58 we need to give a doctor has the
1:06:02 distinctions
1:06:03 between different set of symptoms that
1:06:06 enables him and empowers him or her
1:06:08 to be able to say what disease you have
1:06:11 and what effective
1:06:12 medicine he or she is going to give you
1:06:14 if they didn't have the distinction
1:06:16 then we're gonna you know if you were a
1:06:19 doctor
1:06:20 you didn't have the distinction then
1:06:21 your patients are always gonna be sick
1:06:23 yeah
1:06:23 likewise we're always gonna be
1:06:25 spiritually sick or intellectually sick
1:06:27 if we can't make a distinction between
1:06:28 waswasa spiritual negative whisperings
1:06:32 valid questions and shubohat so
1:06:36 making the distinctions as we just did
1:06:37 today and understanding how to make
1:06:39 those distinctions
1:06:40 would help you especially if you just
1:06:42 have waswasa or just valid questions
1:06:44 but if now you know you have a heart
1:06:47 that it's affecting you in that way it's
1:06:48 not only attached to your heart but it's
1:06:50 draining your faith in your iman your
1:06:51 spiritual intellectual conviction
1:06:53 and to the degree that making
1:06:56 distinctions won't help
1:06:57 then that's what the other strategies
1:06:59 you're gonna learn in week three and
1:07:01 onwards
1:07:01 is gonna help you annihilate okay i hope
1:07:05 you
1:07:05 annihilate so next week we're gonna be
1:07:08 talking about your environment that's
1:07:09 gonna be
1:07:10 i believe it's gonna be doctor with
1:07:12 manatee for
1:07:15 and let's just go back to the strategies
1:07:17 just to remind you we went through be
1:07:19 aware no intention to make the
1:07:20 distinction
1:07:23 now you're in now the following weeks
1:07:26 we're going to talk about your
1:07:27 environment
1:07:28 studying islam critical thinking finding
1:07:29 a specialist dealing with trauma focus
1:07:31 on your heart making dua now that's
1:07:32 going to annihilate
1:07:34 the shubha and the shuba heart that have
1:07:36 affected your heart okay
1:07:39 now we said already being aware is
1:07:41 really before
1:07:42 the affects your heart and attaches
1:07:45 itself and
1:07:46 goes deep in and drains your faith and
1:07:48 giving it no attention is also for
1:07:50 before
1:07:51 and making the distinction is really for
1:07:52 before but one can argue might be for
1:07:55 after as well
1:07:56 and i'll tell you why because you may
1:07:58 think that you have a shubha but after
1:07:59 making distinctions it's not shubaha
1:08:01 anymore
1:08:02 it's just a quite valid question or it's
1:08:05 just a
1:08:07 it's just a waswasa and you know i had
1:08:09 to deal with that now
1:08:10 it's a sign of iman ignore it don't talk
1:08:13 about it
1:08:15 don't speak about it don't act upon it
1:08:16 just ignore it it's a sign of iman based
1:08:18 upon the fact that you have a
1:08:19 psychological aversion to it you know
1:08:20 it's not true and it has no basis
1:08:22 okay so
1:08:26 really if you're someone who has
1:08:29 been affected with super heart then the
1:08:32 the rest of the weeks are really going
1:08:33 to help you in a huge way
1:08:35 a huge way there'll be spiritual tools
1:08:37 and intellectual tools that would
1:08:38 annihilate
1:08:39 the shuba heart the destructive does
1:08:41 that you have even to the point if you
1:08:43 think that you're not muslim anymore
1:08:44 insha allah but the reason we have to go
1:08:46 to the first three because it helps you
1:08:49 depending what stage you are
1:08:50 and not only that remember this course
1:08:52 is about helping others as well
1:08:53 so it will give you the distinction to
1:08:55 be able to
1:08:57 give the right medicine to the people
1:08:58 that you're dealing with and given the
1:08:59 right advice on
1:09:00 on what strategy they should use or what
1:09:03 combinations of strategies
1:09:05 they should use so
1:09:08 this is the end of the second week
1:09:20 you
